PRESIDENT’S LETTER

DEAR FOLLOW MEMBERS,

We have reached the sixth month, and the summer solstice is just a few weeks away. June 21 is of course the longest day of the year here in the Northern Hemisphere, and many people see it as the official start of summer and a cause for celebration. Whether or not you celebrate the solstice itself, I’m certain you will find ample opportunities to put your TCC membership to good use this month.

First and foremost – because their time is so short – I must announce that our patios are open on all four levels, with each one looking lush and inviting. These outdoor spaces have become one of TCC’s most precious assets, so be sure to bring a friend or colleague for a drink or light meal on the next balmy June day. (Group spaces on our patios do fill up quickly, but remember you can always reserve a space for your business entertaining or special event by calling ahead!)

Many of our regular member events will be taking place this month, so check the calendar and then make your reservations for Gourmet Dinners, wine tastings, popup socials on the patio, etc.

  • Of particular significance this month is the Havana Nights dinner buffet on Sunday, June 16 for Father’s Day. Spend some quality time with dad, grandad, or your favourite father figure, but remember to reserve now!
  • A few days later, join us on Wednesday, June 19 for one of my personal favourite events, the Summer Social, which has been extended to include festivities on the Fitness Centre patio. Members and guests are invited to help us kick off “94 Days of Summer” in style with this fun mid-week event.

In addition to member events, TCC is proud to be hosting two special gala-style events this month, for very worthy causes. On Saturday, June 1, Zajac Nights returns to Terminal City Club for the fourth year with LA / LA. Old Hollywood glam meets new LA vibes in this incredible party that transforms the entire club. Proceeds support Zajac Ranch, allowing children with physical and developmental disabilities to attend summer camp for a week. Then, on Tuesday, June 4, Oxfam Canada brings their incredible Hunger Banquet to Terminal City Club. Guests at this powerful event are subject to the randomness of inequality, as the luck of the draw determines their experience for the remainder of the evening. Whatever happens, all guests leave with a newfound perspective on the injustice of inequality, and the motivation to do something about it. Both of these events are remarkable in their own rights, and I encourage our members to learn about and consider attending at least one of them.

By the time I write my next President’s Letter, the solstice will have passed, and the days will once again be getting shorter (albeit slowly)! Seize these opportunities while they are here. Enjoy friends and family, and pause to look around at both the wonderful – and not-so-wonderful – aspects of our world. Find your balance, determine how you will contribute, and relish the moments life offers you this month. And, don’t forget your sunscreen.

Sincerely,

Dr. Ignatius Cheung
Terminal City Club President
