PRESIDENT’S LETTER
DEAR FELLOW MEMBERS,
Fall is upon us, and that means not only shorter days and cooler temperatures, but also the end of Terminal City Club’s fiscal year. I am honoured to have had the opportunity to be involved on our Board during a year when the Club met or exceeded all objectives set out by the Board, and also completed several significant milestones:
• The addition of brand-new entranceway doors
• The refresh of our entry lobby
• And, the renovation of the billiards room into the newly created (and so far, very busy) Members’ Lounge
But the most significant milestone, and the one which deserves the most celebration, is the achievement of our target of 1,892 shareholding TCC members.
This was one of the most difficult targets set out in our 2014/15 Five-Year Strategic Plan, and many opinions suggested it would be impossible. However, we know that a strong and engaged membership base is the lifeblood of every private club, and so we persevered. On behalf of the Board, my thanks to all the current members who introduced their networks to the Club, and especially to the TCC staff who have all worked tirelessly over the past five years to help us reach this ambitious goal.
It is my distinct pleasure to welcome the 82 new members who joined TCC this month. In my nine years on the Board, this was the largest ballot I have seen, and likely one of the largest in our 126-year history. I encourage you all to take advantage of the many fun events coming up this fall, and to enjoy becoming acquainted with your fellow members. Of course, as the Board has stated since this membership target was set, TCC subscription rates will increase significantly now that the target has been reached. Subject to Board rectification, this increase will take effect on January 1, 2020, so there are still a few weeks for new members to join at current rates. (But after December, don’t say we didn’t warn you!)
Over the next several weeks, auditors from Smyth LLP will review the year’s business in detail, and the audited results will be presented at our Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, December 10, at 10 a.m. I encourage all members who are available to attend this event.
There are also many exciting events lined up for fall, including the Thanksgiving Buffet dinner and a highlight of the year, TCC’s gala event, Vegas: Then and Now, on Saturday, November 2. Black-tie is encouraged! This is our night to say thank you to you, our members. If previous years are any indication, you will not want to miss this! Tickets are now on sale; plan to bring your friends and make it a night to remember.
In the meantime, welcome once again to all our new members. I wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving, and look forward to seeing you around the Club.
Sincerely,
Dr. Ignatius Cheung
Terminal City Club President
